Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Paper & Pulp, Railway & Bus and Real Estate sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.91% to hit a new 5-year high.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Kobe Steel, Ltd. (T:5406), which rose 11.62% or 48.0 points to trade at 461.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Nippon Sheet Glass Co., Ltd. (T:5202) added 10.55% or 40.0 points to end at 419.0 and Konami Corp. (T:9766) was up 7.32% or 340.0 points to 4985.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd. (T:5801), which fell 11.71% or 326.0 points to trade at 2458.0 at the close. Mitsui Fudosan Co., Ltd. (T:8801) declined 4.21% or 81.5 points to end at 1855.0 and Chugai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (T:4519) was down 3.97% or 183.0 points to 4429.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2052 to 1409 and 231 ended unchanged.
Shares in Konami Corp. (T:9766) rose to 52-week highs; up 7.32% or 340.0 to 4985.0.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was unchanged 0% to 24.73.
Crude oil for December delivery was down 1.47% or 0.57 to $38.22 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in January fell 1.39% or 0.57 to hit $40.36 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract fell 0.02% or 0.40 to trade at $1946.40 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.01% to 103.45, while EUR/JPY rose 0.02% to 122.43.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 92.552.
