Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Marine Transport, Rubber and Pharmaceutical Industry sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.84%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Nitto Denko Co (TYO:6988), which rose 5.20% or 585.00 points to trade at 11,840.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Mazda Motor Corp (TYO:7261) added 4.35% or 74.00 points to end at 1,777.00 and Inpex Corp. (TYO:1605) was up 4.11% or 81.50 points to 2,066.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Rakuten Inc (TYO:4755), which fell 4.38% or 30.00 points to trade at 654.70 at the close. Hitachi Construction Machinery Co (TYO:6305) declined 3.59% or 147.00 points to end at 3,950.00 and Nippon Paper Industries Co., Ltd. (TYO:3863) was down 2.10% or 29.00 points to 1,354.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2694 to 1007 and 196 ended unchanged.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 1.60% to 19.64.
Crude oil for March delivery was up 0.37% or 0.29 to $78.30 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in April rose 0.37% or 0.31 to hit $83.26 a barrel, while the April Gold Futures contract rose 0.45% or 9.25 to trade at $2,045.35 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.15% to 147.94, while EUR/JPY fell 0.16% to 160.41.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.07% at 103.31.
