Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Shipbuilding, Transport and Food sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.74%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Pacific Metals Co., Ltd. (T:5541), which rose 10.28% or 29.0 points to trade at 311.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Asahi Kasei Corp. (T:3407) added 4.89% or 61.5 points to end at 1318.5 and Tosoh Corp. (T:4042) was up 3.59% or 44.0 points to 1269.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were SUMCO Corp. (T:3436), which fell 2.87% or 48.0 points to trade at 1624.0 at the close. Toshiba Corp. (T:6502) declined 2.82% or 9.0 points to end at 310.5 and Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd. (T:5713) was down 1.33% or 25.5 points to 1887.5.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2072 to 1083 and 296 ended unchanged.
Shares in Asahi Kasei Corp. (T:3407) rose to all time highs; rising 4.89% or 61.5 to 1318.5.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 6.13% to 15.41.
Crude oil for October delivery was down 0.65% or 0.30 to $46.14 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in November fell 0.77% or 0.40 to hit $51.26 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract fell 0.31% or 4.05 to trade at $1314.85 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.22% to 109.94, while EUR/JPY rose 0.05% to 131.38.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.16% at 92.42.
