Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Communication, Pharmaceutical Industry and Power sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.74%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (TYO:9107), which rose 4.40% or 104.00 points to trade at 2,469.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Credit Saison Co., Ltd. (TYO:8253) added 4.34% or 140.00 points to end at 3,367.00 and Mitsubishi Logistics Corp. (TYO:9301) was up 4.21% or 219.00 points to 5,417.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Alps Electric Co., Ltd. (TYO:6770), which fell 5.62% or 87.00 points to trade at 1,462.00 at the close. Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma Co Ltd (TYO:4506) declined 4.87% or 17.00 points to end at 332.00 and Sharp Corp (TYO:6753) was down 3.10% or 30.00 points to 937.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2236 to 1364 and 257 ended unchanged.
Shares in Mitsubishi Logistics Corp. (TYO:9301) rose to all time highs; rising 4.21% or 219.00 to 5,417.00.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 3.62% to 17.77.
Crude oil for July delivery was up 0.47% or 0.35 to $74.42 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in August rose 0.37% or 0.29 to hit $78.70 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract rose 0.35% or 8.20 to trade at $2,383.70 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.03% to 156.14, while EUR/JPY rose 0.09% to 169.85.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.02% at 104.21.
