Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Paper & Pulp, Chemical and Pharmaceutical Industry sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.58%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Showa Shell Sekiyu K.K. (T:5002), which rose 4.94% or 100.0 points to trade at 2125.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd. (T:5801) added 4.55% or 155.0 points to end at 3560.0 and Isuzu Motors, Ltd. (T:7202) was up 4.51% or 72.0 points to 1669.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Yamato Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:9064), which fell 3.11% or 106.0 points to trade at 3306.0 at the close. Oji Holdings Corp. (T:3861) declined 2.89% or 21.0 points to end at 706.0 and Nippon Paper Industries Co., Ltd. (T:3863) was down 2.19% or 43.0 points to 1921.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2515 to 898 and 190 ended unchanged.
Shares in Showa Shell Sekiyu K.K. (T:5002) rose to all time highs; rising 4.94% or 100.0 to 2125.0.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 6.76% to 15.87.
Crude oil for October delivery was up 0.67% or 0.44 to $66.28 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in October rose 0.94% or 0.68 to hit $73.31 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract rose 0.02% or 0.30 to trade at $1200.30 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.13% to 110.39, while EUR/JPY fell 0.01% to 127.56.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.13% at 95.25.
