Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Transportation Equipment, Pharmaceutical Industry and Paper & Pulp sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.55%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Sharp Corp (TYO:6753), which rose 6.95% or 66.20 points to trade at 1,018.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Shimizu Corp. (TYO:1803) added 4.72% or 43.80 points to end at 972.30 and Taisei Corp. (TYO:1801) was up 3.69% or 235.00 points to 6,602.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Advantest Corp. (TYO:6857), which fell 3.41% or 225.00 points to trade at 6,382.00 at the close. Lasertec Corp (TYO:6920) declined 3.09% or 905.00 points to end at 28,350.00 and DeNA Co Ltd (TYO:2432) was down 2.81% or 48.00 points to 1,661.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2060 to 1568 and 249 ended unchanged.
Shares in Taisei Corp. (TYO:1801) rose to 5-year highs; up 3.69% or 235.00 to 6,602.00.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 2.03% to 27.05.
Crude oil for October delivery was up 0.14% or 0.10 to $73.11 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in October rose 0.12% or 0.09 to hit $77.31 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract rose 0.42% or 10.50 to trade at $2,527.20 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.46% to 145.59, while EUR/JPY fell 0.37% to 161.94.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.16% at 101.23.
