Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Transportation Equipment, Manufacturing and Paper & Pulp sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.50% to hit a new 5-year high.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were DeNA Co Ltd (T:2432), which rose 7.78% or 191.0 points to trade at 2646.0 at the close. Meanwhile, SUMCO Corp. (T:3436) added 3.47% or 75.0 points to end at 2239.0 and Sojitz Corp. (T:2768) was up 2.76% or 9.0 points to 334.5 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Yaskawa Electric Corp. (T:6506), which fell 3.61% or 150.0 points to trade at 4000.0 at the close. Rakuten Inc (T:4755) declined 2.02% or 25.0 points to end at 1214.5 and Yamaha Corp. (T:7951) was down 1.92% or 85.0 points to 4350.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2292 to 978 and 227 ended unchanged.
Shares in SUMCO Corp. (T:3436) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 3.47% or 75.0 to 2239.0. Shares in Sojitz Corp. (T:2768) rose to 5-year highs; up 2.76% or 9.0 to 334.5.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 8.60% to 14.67.
Crude oil for December delivery was down 0.19% or 0.10 to $51.80 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in December fell 0.30% or 0.17 to hit $57.20 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract fell 0.08% or 1.05 to trade at $1279.85 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.15% to 113.61, while EUR/JPY rose 0.26% to 133.62.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.02% at 93.70.
