Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Precision Instruments, Finance & Investment and Retail sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.49%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Konami Corp. (TYO:9766), which rose 9.27% or 873.00 points to trade at 10,290.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Mercari Inc (TYO:4385) added 9.10% or 160.00 points to end at 1,918.00 and SUMCO Corp. (TYO:3436) was up 8.36% or 200.00 points to 2,591.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (TYO:7735), which fell 12.24% or 2,155.00 points to trade at 15,445.00 at the close. Tokai Carbon Co., Ltd. (TYO:5301) declined 7.17% or 75.00 points to end at 971.00 and Asahi Kasei Corp. (TYO:3407) was down 5.17% or 58.50 points to 1,074.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1923 to 1704 and 249 ended unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 3.57% to 19.20 a new 1-month low.
Crude oil for June delivery was up 0.81% or 0.64 to $79.90 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in July rose 0.70% or 0.59 to hit $84.47 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract rose 1.25% or 29.25 to trade at $2,369.55 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.09% to 155.60, while EUR/JPY rose 0.04% to 167.70.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 105.13.
