Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Glass, Retail and Transportation Equipment sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.48%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Toshiba Corp. (T:6502), which rose 6.10% or 16.4 points to trade at 285.4 at the close. Meanwhile, Mazda Motor Corp (T:7261) added 5.23% or 83.0 points to end at 1671.5 and Mitsubishi Motors Corp. (T:7211) was up 5.12% or 40.0 points to 820.5 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Showa Denko K.K. (T:4004), which fell 2.94% or 87.0 points to trade at 2877.0 at the close. Tokai Carbon Co., Ltd. (T:5301) declined 2.15% or 16.0 points to end at 729.0 and Nichirei Corp. (T:2871) was down 1.72% or 55.0 points to 3140.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1689 to 1481 and 306 ended unchanged.
Shares in Mitsubishi Motors Corp. (T:7211) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 5.12% or 40.0 to 820.5.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 4.83% to 12.62.
Crude oil for September delivery was up 0.94% or 0.45 to $48.34 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in September rose 0.72% or 0.36 to hit $50.56 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.53% or 6.66 to trade at $1245.44 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.01% to 111.90, while EUR/JPY fell 0.25% to 129.99.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.20% at 94.11.
