Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Shipbuilding, Machinery and Steel sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.46%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Chiyoda Corp. (T:6366), which rose 4.59% or 39.0 points to trade at 889.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (T:5707) added 4.50% or 175.0 points to end at 4065.0 and Showa Denko K.K. (T:4004) was up 4.15% or 210.0 points to 5270.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Mitsubishi Motors Corp. (T:7211), which fell 3.93% or 36.5 points to trade at 892.5 at the close. Sumitomo Osaka Cement Co., Ltd. (T:5232) declined 2.77% or 15.0 points to end at 526.0 and Konami Corp. (T:9766) was down 2.74% or 150.0 points to 5320.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2160 to 1178 and 249 ended unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 8.41% to 16.66.
Crude oil for September delivery was up 0.13% or 0.09 to $68.61 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in September rose 0.71% or 0.52 to hit $73.96 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract rose 0.22% or 2.70 to trade at $1228.20 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.03% to 111.22, while EUR/JPY rose 0.10% to 130.06.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.10% at 94.30.
