Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Shipbuilding, Precision Instruments and Banking sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.42%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Nippon Yusen K.K (TYO:9101), which rose 3.54% or 112.00 points to trade at 3,278.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Keisei Electric Railway Co., Ltd. (TYO:9009) added 3.09% or 135.00 points to end at 4,500.00 and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (TYO:9104) was up 2.53% or 85.00 points to 3,450.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Konica Minolta, Inc. (TYO:4902), which fell 2.35% or 13.00 points to trade at 541.00 at the close. Nippon Sheet Glass Co., Ltd. (TYO:5202) declined 1.88% or 12.00 points to end at 625.00 and SoftBank Group Corp. (TYO:9984) was down 1.33% or 69.00 points to 5,100.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2519 to 1029 and 268 ended unchanged.
Shares in Keisei Electric Railway Co., Ltd. (TYO:9009) rose to 3-years highs; gaining 3.09% or 135.00 to 4,500.00.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 2.37% to 17.30.
Crude oil for May delivery was down 0.31% or 0.25 to $80.45 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in June fell 0.34% or 0.29 to hit $84.83 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract fell 0.76% or 15.40 to trade at $2,011.00 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.09% to 132.26, while EUR/JPY rose 0.19% to 144.25.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.03% at 101.76.
