Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Communication, Shipbuilding and Retail sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.38%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Nippon Electric Glass Co., Ltd. (T:5214), which rose 4.78% or 142.0 points to trade at 3115.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Unitika, Ltd. (T:3103) added 3.42% or 22.0 points to end at 666.0 and Hitachi Ltd (T:6501) was up 3.10% or 24.7 points to 822.1 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tokai Carbon Co., Ltd. (T:5301), which fell 8.13% or 183.0 points to trade at 2068.0 at the close. Okuma Corp. (T:6103) declined 3.89% or 260.0 points to end at 6420.0 and Fanuc Corp. (T:6954) was down 2.88% or 665.0 points to 22465.0.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1757 to 1571 and 223 ended unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 2.73% to 14.59.
Crude oil for July delivery was up 0.14% or 0.09 to $65.61 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in August rose 0.70% or 0.53 to hit $75.91 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.12% or 1.50 to trade at $1300.70 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.25% to 110.05, while EUR/JPY rose 0.54% to 129.32.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.17% at 93.69.
