Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Paper & Pulp, Machinery and Chemical sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.33%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Sumitomo Electric Industries Ltd. (T:5802), which rose 14.26% or 179.5 points to trade at 1438.5 at the close. Meanwhile, Shiseido Co., Ltd. (T:4911) added 9.88% or 242.0 points to end at 2692.5 and NTN Corp. (T:6472) was up 6.09% or 21.0 points to 366.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Meidensha Corp. (T:6508), which fell 15.04% or 71.0 points to trade at 401.0 at the close. Nippon Soda Co., Ltd. (T:4041) declined 12.28% or 69.0 points to end at 493.0 and The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd. (T:5101) was down 7.32% or 124.0 points to 1569.0.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1133 to 759 and 110 ended unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 0.88% to 27.54.
Crude oil for June delivery was up 1.32% or 0.61 to $46.82 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in July rose 1.32% or 0.63 to hit $48.46 a barrel, while the June Gold contract rose 0.76% or 9.65 to trade at $1282.35 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.15% to 108.81, while EUR/JPY rose 0.19% to 123.09.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.01% at 94.59.
