Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Shipbuilding, Finance & Investment and Communication sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.31%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Chiyoda Corp. (T:6366), which rose 5.58% or 15.0 points to trade at 284.0 at the close. Meanwhile, NEC Corp. (T:6701) added 3.01% or 120.0 points to end at 4110.0 and JGC Corp. (T:1963) was up 2.78% or 38.0 points to 1405.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (T:7735), which fell 3.10% or 125.0 points to trade at 3905.0 at the close. Nippon Suisan Kaisha, Ltd. (T:1332) declined 2.63% or 18.0 points to end at 667.0 and Yamaha Corp. (T:7951) was down 2.49% or 130.0 points to 5100.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2208 to 1293 and 231 ended unchanged.
Shares in Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (T:7735) fell to 3-years lows; falling 3.10% or 125.0 to 3905.0. Shares in NEC Corp. (T:6701) rose to 3-years highs; up 3.01% or 120.0 to 4110.0.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 0.76% to 18.56.
Crude oil for July delivery was down 0.82% or 0.48 to $58.33 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in August fell 0.06% or 0.04 to hit $67.43 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract rose 0.07% or 0.95 to trade at $1285.25 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.23% to 109.55, while EUR/JPY rose 0.29% to 122.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 97.523.
