Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Power, Gas & Water and Railway & Bus sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.31%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Chiyoda Corp. (T:6366), which rose 3.49% or 27.0 points to trade at 800.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Terumo Corp. (T:4543) added 3.39% or 210.0 points to end at 6410.0 and Pacific Metals Co., Ltd. (T:5541) was up 2.96% or 105.0 points to 3650.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd. (T:6976), which fell 4.05% or 126.0 points to trade at 2984.0 at the close. Nippon Meat Packers, Inc. (T:2282) declined 3.04% or 120.0 points to end at 3825.0 and Taiheiyo Cement Corp. (T:5233) was down 2.89% or 95.1 points to 3190.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1939 to 1442 and 243 ended unchanged.
Shares in Nippon Meat Packers, Inc. (T:2282) fell to 52-week lows; losing 3.04% or 120.0 to 3825.0. Shares in Taiheiyo Cement Corp. (T:5233) fell to 52-week lows; down 2.89% or 95.1 to 3190.0.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 1.60% to 17.17.
Crude oil for October delivery was up 1.02% or 0.69 to $68.44 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in November rose 1.24% or 0.95 to hit $77.78 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract fell 0.10% or 1.20 to trade at $1199.20 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.03% to 111.00, while EUR/JPY rose 0.08% to 128.38.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.07% at 95.31.
