Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Shipbuilding, Insurance and Mining sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.29%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Astellas Pharma Inc. (TYO:4503), which rose 10.05% or 200.00 points to trade at 2,191.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Nissui Corp (TYO:1332) added 7.61% or 54.10 points to end at 765.00 and Toray Industries, Inc. (TYO:3402) was up 5.68% or 43.40 points to 807.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Taisei Corp. (TYO:1801), which fell 8.71% or 469.00 points to trade at 4,914.00 at the close. Obayashi Corp. (TYO:1802) declined 6.95% or 91.00 points to end at 1,217.50 and Denka Co Ltd (TYO:4061) was down 6.09% or 165.50 points to 2,552.50.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2516 to 1120 and 214 ended unchanged.
Shares in Nissui Corp (TYO:1332) rose to 3-years highs; up 7.61% or 54.10 to 765.00.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 0.97% to 20.86.
Crude oil for September delivery was down 0.08% or 0.07 to $82.75 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in October fell 0.02% or 0.02 to hit $86.22 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract fell 0.26% or 5.20 to trade at $1,970.90 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.28% to 142.14, while EUR/JPY rose 0.06% to 156.20.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.15% at 101.99.
