Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Electrical/Machinery, Steel and Transportation Equipment sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.26%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Tokai Carbon Co., Ltd. (T:5301), which rose 5.10% or 36.0 points to trade at 742.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Showa Denko K.K. (T:4004) added 4.55% or 128.0 points to end at 2939.0 and Toray Industries, Inc. (T:3402) was up 3.82% or 37.7 points to 1023.5 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were JFE Holdings, Inc. (T:5411), which fell 3.50% or 78.0 points to trade at 2153.0 at the close. Unitika, Ltd. (T:3103) declined 2.41% or 2.0 points to end at 81.0 and Nippon Yusen K.K (T:9101) was down 2.29% or 5.0 points to 213.5.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1836 to 1314 and 303 ended unchanged.
Shares in Toray Industries, Inc. (T:3402) rose to 52-week highs; up 3.82% or 37.7 to 1023.5.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 6.32% to 16.30.
Crude oil for October delivery was down 0.36% or 0.17 to $47.66 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in October fell 0.46% or 0.24 to hit $51.63 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract rose 0.04% or 0.53 to trade at $1291.53 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.16% to 109.39, while EUR/JPY rose 0.02% to 128.91.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.10% at 93.33.
