Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Marine Transport, Banking and Shipbuilding sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.22% to hit a new 6-months high.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Shinsei Bank, Ltd. (T:8303), which rose 12.99% or 226.0 points to trade at 1966.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (T:5707) added 5.35% or 145.0 points to end at 2856.0 and Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings Ltd. (T:3099) was up 5.17% or 40.0 points to 813.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Isuzu Motors, Ltd. (T:7202), which fell 2.94% or 44.0 points to trade at 1455.0 at the close. Nitto Denko Co (T:6988) declined 2.55% or 240.0 points to end at 9170.0 and Daiichi Sankyo Co., Ltd. (T:4568) was down 2.39% or 68.5 points to 2802.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2344 to 1184 and 245 ended unchanged.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 0.24% to 20.86.
Crude oil for October delivery was up 0.63% or 0.44 to $70.16 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in November rose 0.52% or 0.38 to hit $73.30 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract fell 0.02% or 0.35 to trade at $1791.75 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.15% to 110.10, while EUR/JPY fell 0.18% to 129.63.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.29% at 92.843.
