Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Shipbuilding, Gas & Water and Insurance sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.19% to hit a new 1-month high.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Chugai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (TYO:4519), which rose 3.47% or 167.00 points to trade at 4,978.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Ebara Corp. (TYO:6361) added 3.44% or 405.00 points to end at 12,165.00 and Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd. (TYO:6976) was up 3.35% or 116.00 points to 3,576.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Daiwa Securities Group Inc. (TYO:8601), which fell 4.60% or 60.50 points to trade at 1,254.50 at the close. Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (TYO:9104) declined 3.69% or 189.00 points to end at 4,927.00 and Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (TYO:9107) was down 3.61% or 87.50 points to 2,335.50.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2002 to 1539 and 315 ended unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 1.18% to 17.98.
Crude oil for July delivery was up 0.12% or 0.09 to $77.83 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in August rose 0.05% or 0.04 to hit $81.67 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.28% or 6.60 to trade at $2,320.40 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.17% to 157.28, while EUR/JPY rose 0.21% to 169.41.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.37% at 104.72.
