Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Glass, Communication and Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.18% to hit a new 1-month high.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Okuma Corp. (T:6103), which rose 8.29% or 520.0 points to trade at 6790.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Tokuyama Corp. (T:4043) added 6.74% or 220.0 points to end at 3485.0 and West Japan Railway Co. (T:9021) was up 6.53% or 506.0 points to 8256.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Yahoo Japan Corp. (T:4689), which fell 14.43% or 65.0 points to trade at 385.5 at the close. TOTO Ltd. (T:5332) declined 11.76% or 730.0 points to end at 5480.0 and Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding (T:7003) was down 10.59% or 199.0 points to 1681.0.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1908 to 1461 and 193 ended unchanged.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 4.60% to 16.16.
Crude oil for June delivery was down 0.51% or 0.35 to $68.22 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in July fell 0.63% or 0.47 to hit $74.22 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract fell 0.73% or 9.60 to trade at $1309.60 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.20% to 109.52, while EUR/JPY fell 0.08% to 131.87.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.34% at 91.94.
