Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic, Textile and Mining sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.13%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Konica Minolta, Inc. (T:4902), which rose 4.16% or 43.0 points to trade at 1076.0 at the close. Meanwhile, KDDI Corp. (T:9433) added 2.59% or 78.0 points to end at 3088.0 and Showa Shell Sekiyu K.K. (T:5002) was up 2.34% or 33.0 points to 1443.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Mitsubishi Materials Corp. (T:5711), which fell 8.30% or 340.0 points to trade at 3757.5 at the close. DeNA Co Ltd (T:2432) declined 3.39% or 93.0 points to end at 2652.0 and Trend Micro Inc. (T:4704) was down 2.80% or 180.0 points to 6250.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1977 to 1301 and 230 ended unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 0.66% to 18.14.
Crude oil for January delivery was up 0.98% or 0.57 to $58.59 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in January rose 0.09% or 0.06 to hit $63.61 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract fell 0.08% or 1.09 to trade at $1291.11 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.22% to 111.46, while EUR/JPY rose 0.15% to 132.00.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.11% at 93.14.
