Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Mining, Steel and Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.09%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd. (T:5713), which rose 5.00% or 233.0 points to trade at 4891.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (T:5707) added 3.32% or 200.0 points to end at 6220.0 and Nippon Yusen K.K (T:9101) was up 3.27% or 88.5 points to 2794.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Eisai Co., Ltd. (T:4523), which fell 14.85% or 1057.0 points to trade at 6061.0 at the close. Kobe Steel, Ltd. (T:5406) declined 2.54% or 27.0 points to end at 1035.5 and Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (T:7735) was down 2.52% or 240.0 points to 9275.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1765 to 1575 and 244 ended unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 3.69% to 13.83 a new 1-month low.
Crude oil for February delivery was down 0.29% or 0.17 to $58.19 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in February fell 0.09% or 0.06 to hit $64.84 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract rose 0.02% or 0.30 to trade at $1270.90 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.06% to 113.41, while EUR/JPY fell 0.12% to 134.44.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.13% at 92.96.
