Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Gas & Water, Paper & Pulp and Communication sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.08%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. (T:9501), which rose 3.74% or 27.0 points to trade at 749.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Hokuetsu Kishu Paper Co., Ltd. (T:3865) added 3.63% or 21.0 points to end at 599.0 and Toho Co., Ltd. (T:9602) was up 3.52% or 135.0 points to 3975.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Trend Micro Inc. (T:4704), which fell 9.03% or 580.0 points to trade at 5840.0 at the close. Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (T:7735) declined 6.00% or 330.0 points to end at 5170.0 and Advantest Corp. (T:6857) was down 4.61% or 111.0 points to 2298.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1780 to 1672 and 232 ended unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 2.30% to 19.99.
Crude oil for March delivery was up 0.12% or 0.06 to $52.05 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in April fell 0.02% or 0.01 to hit $59.80 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract rose 0.33% or 4.25 to trade at $1307.35 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.09% to 109.25, while EUR/JPY rose 0.09% to 125.03.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.09% at 95.340.
