Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Marine Transport, Chemical and Machinery sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.07%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. (TYO:9531), which rose 5.48% or 149.00 points to trade at 2,868.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (TYO:7735) added 5.12% or 490.00 points to end at 10,060.00 and Alps Electric Co., Ltd. (TYO:6770) was up 5.06% or 67.00 points to 1,390.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were TOTO Ltd. (TYO:5332), which fell 8.37% or 420.00 points to trade at 4,600.00 at the close. Seiko Epson Cor (TYO:6724) declined 5.83% or 117.00 points to end at 1,890.00 and Ajinomoto Co., Inc. (TYO:2802) was down 3.65% or 156.00 points to 4,117.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1788 to 1774 and 256 ended unchanged.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 0.18% to 16.97 a new 1-month low.
Crude oil for March delivery was up 0.23% or 0.18 to $79.05 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in April rose 0.07% or 0.06 to hit $85.52 a barrel, while the April Gold Futures contract fell 0.25% or 4.95 to trade at $1,940.35 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.23% to 130.40, while EUR/JPY rose 0.34% to 141.78.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.02% at 101.89.
