Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Precision Instruments, Transportation Equipment and Electrical/Machinery sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.04%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Eisai Co., Ltd. (TYO:4523), which rose 2.79% or 170.00 points to trade at 6,259.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Nidec Corp (TYO:6594) added 1.35% or 92.00 points to end at 6,894.00 and Alps Electric Co., Ltd. (TYO:6770) was up 1.35% or 18.00 points to 1,352.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. (TYO:9531), which fell 9.57% or 387.00 points to trade at 3,654.00 at the close. Canon Inc (TYO:7751) declined 8.42% or 374.00 points to end at 4,081.00 and Hino Motors, Ltd. (TYO:7205) was down 5.96% or 29.30 points to 462.70.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2755 to 874 and 239 ended unchanged.
Shares in Alps Electric Co., Ltd. (TYO:6770) rose to 52-week highs; rising 1.35% or 18.00 to 1,352.00.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 3.43% to 20.01.
Crude oil for June delivery was up 0.17% or 0.14 to $82.95 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in June rose 0.20% or 0.18 to hit $88.20 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract fell 0.30% or 7.05 to trade at $2,331.35 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.21% to 155.66, while EUR/JPY rose 0.43% to 166.91.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.18% at 105.51.
