Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Materials, IT and Telecoms sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.93%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Element Fleet Management Corp (TO:EFN), which rose 5.05% or 0.43 points to trade at 8.95 at the close. Meanwhile, Alaris Royalty Corp . (TO:AD) added 4.20% or 0.920 points to end at 22.810 and Nevsun Resources Ltd . (TO:NSU) was up 3.59% or 0.110 points to 3.170 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Novagold Resources Inc . (TO:NG), which fell 5.37% or 0.33 points to trade at 5.82 at the close. Shaw Communications Inc (TO:SJRb) declined 5.08% or 1.53 points to end at 28.61 and Alamos Gold Inc (TO:AGI) was down 4.77% or 0.45 points to 8.98.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 745 to 374 and 127 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 8.17% to 12.98.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.22% or 2.79 to $1246.31 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.29% or 0.13 to hit $44.87 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.04% or 0.02 to trade at $47.56 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.27% to 0.7691, while CAD/EUR fell 0.28% to 0.6722.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.50% at 95.30.
