The S&P 500 futures fell 0.09%. The tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 futures shed 0.17%.
The dollar index was flat after the euro and the pound recovered some ground.
Oil retreated on supply concerns with API stockpiles report ahead.
Fed members Brainard and Kashkari are due to speak later in the session.
