France stocks mixed at close of trade; CAC 40 down 0.16%

Investing.com – France stocks were mixed after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Technology and Industrials sectors led shares higher while losses in the Oil & Gas, Utilities and Consumer Services sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 fell 0.16%, while the SBF 120 index gained 0.33%.

The best performers of the session on the CAC 40 were Engie SA (EPA:ENGIE), which rose 1.06% or 0.17 points to trade at 16.16 at the close. Meanwhile, EssilorLuxottica SA (EPA:ESLX) added 1.01% or 1.86 points to end at 185.42 and Thales (EPA:TCFP) was up 0.91% or 1.25 points to 138.70 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Carrefour SA (EPA:CARR), which fell 5.37% or 0.92 points to trade at 16.12 at the close. Alstom SA (EPA:ALSO) declined 3.47% or 0.39 points to end at 10.70 and Orange SA (EPA:ORAN) was down 3.21% or 0.36 points to 10.80.

The top performers on the SBF 120 were Solvay SA (EBR:SOLB) which rose 8.18% to 23.95, Arkema SA (EPA:AKE) which was up 5.54% to settle at 96.38 and Solutions 30 SE (EPA:S30) which gained 3.96% to close at 2.36.

The worst performers were Carrefour SA (EPA:CARR) which was down 5.37% to 16.12 in late trade, Syensqo SA (EBR:SYENS) which lost 4.08% to settle at 101.02 and Alstom SA (EPA:ALSO) which was down 3.47% to 10.70 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Paris Stock Exchange by 273 to 224 and 114 ended unchanged.

The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was unchanged 0.00% to 18.96 a new 52-week high.

Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.23% or 4.65 to $1,997.85 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 1.36% or 0.93 to hit $69.54 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 1.41% or 1.03 to trade at $74.27 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.01% to 1.08, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.27% to 0.86.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.04% at 103.43.
