France stocks lower at close of trade; CAC 40 down 0.37%

Investing.com – France stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Technology, Healthcare and Basic Materials sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 lost 0.37%, while the SBF 120 index fell 0.42%.

The best performers of the session on the CAC 40 were Renault SA (EPA:RENA), which rose 3.06% or 0.91 points to trade at 30.61 at the close. Meanwhile, TotalEnergies SE (EPA:TTEF) added 2.48% or 1.24 points to end at 51.26 and Stellantis NV (EPA:STLA) was up 0.80% or 0.11 points to 13.67 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were ArcelorMittal SA (AS:MT), which fell 4.22% or 0.96 points to trade at 21.91 at the close. Legrand SA (EPA:LEGD) declined 3.19% or 2.38 points to end at 72.18 and Vivendi SA (EPA:VIV) was down 3.12% or 0.27 points to 8.51.

The top performers on the SBF 120 were Technip Energies BV (EPA:TE) which rose 5.85% to 13.29, Renault SA (EPA:RENA) which was up 3.06% to settle at 30.61 and TotalEnergies SE (EPA:TTEF) which gained 2.48% to close at 51.26.

The worst performers were Orpea SA (EPA:ORP) which was down 6.37% to 14.25 in late trade, Mcphy Energy (EPA:MCPHY) which lost 5.24% to settle at 9.44 and Casino Guichard Perrachon SA (EPA:CASP) which was down 4.32% to 11.73 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Paris Stock Exchange by 352 to 193 and 78 ended unchanged.

Shares in Vivendi SA (EPA:VIV) fell to 5-year lows; falling 3.12% or 0.27 to 8.51. Shares in Orpea SA (EPA:ORP) fell to 5-year lows; losing 6.37% or 0.97 to 14.25. Shares in Mcphy Energy (EPA:MCPHY) fell to 52-week lows; down 5.24% or 0.52 to 9.44.

The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was unchanged 0.00% to 18.96 a new 52-week high.

Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.36% or 6.20 to $1,711.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 2.89% or 2.52 to hit $89.83 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 2.50% or 2.33 to trade at $95.50 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.28% to 1.00, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.33% to 0.86.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.33% at 109.17.
