Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Healthcare, Energy and IT sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 1.86% to hit a new 1-month low.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Eldorado Gold Corp (TSX:ELD), which rose 6.36% or 0.68 points to trade at 11.37 at the close. Meanwhile, NovaGold Resources Inc (TSX:NG) added 4.19% or 0.37 points to end at 9.20 and Chemtrade Logistics Income Fund (TSX:CHE_u) was up 3.99% or 0.38 points to 9.90 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Kelt Exploration Ltd. (TSX:KEL), which fell 12.03% or 0.380 points to trade at 2.780 at the close. Baytex Energy Corp (TSX:BTE) declined 8.56% or 0.16 points to end at 1.71 and HudBay Minerals Inc (TSX:HBM) was down 8.46% or 0.39 points to 4.22.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 916 to 189 and 96 ended unchanged.

Shares in NovaGold Resources Inc (TSX:NG) rose to 3-years highs; rising 4.19% or 0.37 to 9.20. Shares in Baytex Energy Corp (TSX:BTE) fell to all time lows; losing 8.56% or 0.16 to 1.71. Shares in HudBay Minerals Inc (TSX:HBM) fell to 3-years lows; down 8.46% or 0.39 to 4.22.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 28.31% to 16.36 a new 3-months high.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.86% or 13.00 to $1527.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 3.82% or 2.18 to hit $54.92 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.17% or 0.10 to trade at $58.96 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.03% to 0.7509, while CAD/EUR rose 0.00% to 0.6740.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.20% at 97.830.
