Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Energy, Financials and Consumer Discretionary sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 1.78% to hit a new 3-months low.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Klondex Mines Ltd (TO:KDX), which rose 5.33% or 0.130 points to trade at 2.570 at the close. Meanwhile, MAG Silver Corp . (TO:MAG) added 4.65% or 0.59 points to end at 13.29 and Novagold Resources Inc . (TO:NG) was up 4.01% or 0.18 points to 4.67 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were ProMetic Life Sciences Inc. (TO:PLI), which fell 6.47% or 0.110 points to trade at 1.590 at the close. NexGen Energy Ltd. (TO:NXE) declined 4.68% or 0.130 points to end at 2.650 and Bombardier Inc (TO:BBDb) was down 4.53% or 0.150 points to 3.160.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 934 to 258 and 96 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 31.26% to 18.39 a new 52-week high.
Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.29% or 3.90 to $1341.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 2.77% or 1.81 to hit $63.64 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 1.94% or 1.33 to trade at $67.25 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.80% to 0.7983, while CAD/EUR fell 0.22% to 0.6446.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.40% at 89.40.
