Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Healthcare, Industrials and Energy sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 1.41%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Dollarama Inc (TO:DOL), which rose 4.06% or 1.43 points to trade at 36.67 at the close. Meanwhile, Dorel Industries Inc (TO:DIIb) added 2.97% or 0.54 points to end at 18.70 and Agnico-Eagle Mines Ltd . (TO:AEM) was up 2.83% or 1.34 points to 48.69 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Aphria Inc (TO:APHA), which fell 20.94% or 1.585 points to trade at 5.985 at the close. Paramount Resources Ltd . (TO:POU) declined 10.06% or 0.79 points to end at 7.06 and NuVista Energy Ltd . (TO:NVA) was down 9.75% or 0.390 points to 3.610.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 826 to 319 and 97 ended unchanged.
Shares in Aphria Inc (TO:APHA) fell to 52-week lows; losing 20.94% or 1.585 to 5.985. Shares in Paramount Resources Ltd. (TO:POU) fell to 52-week lows; down 10.06% or 0.79 to 7.06. Shares in NuVista Energy Ltd. (TO:NVA) fell to 52-week lows; down 9.75% or 0.390 to 3.610.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 7.82% to 16.40.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.33% or 4.05 to $1243.65 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.21% or 0.11 to hit $52.84 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.16% or 0.10 to trade at $61.59 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.45% to 0.7543, while CAD/EUR fell 0.34% to 0.6651.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.07% at 96.903.
