Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Energy, IT and Industrials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 1.17%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Canopy Growth Corp (TO:WEED), which rose 5.34% or 2.420 points to trade at 47.780 at the close. Meanwhile, Aphria Inc (TO:APH) added 5.31% or 0.660 points to end at 13.100 and Stars Group Inc (TO:TSGI) was up 4.72% or 2.33 points to 51.74 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Precision Drilling Corporation (TO:PD), which fell 5.14% or 0.22 points to trade at 4.06 at the close. Shopify Inc (TO:SHOP) declined 4.68% or 10.740 points to end at 218.600 and Cenovus Energy Inc (TO:CVE) was down 4.68% or 0.60 points to 12.23.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 670 to 412 and 122 ended unchanged.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 6.26% to 12.40.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.38% or 4.90 to $1269.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.15% or 0.10 to hit $65.81 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 2.15% or 1.61 to trade at $73.13 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.04% to 0.7516, while CAD/EUR fell 0.22% to 0.6477.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.27% at 94.52.
