Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the IT, Healthcare and Financials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.94% to hit a new 1-month low.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were SSR Mining Inc (TO:SSRM), which rose 12.51% or 1.46 points to trade at 13.13 at the close. Meanwhile, Pan American Silver Corp (TO:PAAS) added 10.74% or 2.18 points to end at 22.47 and First Majestic Silver Corp. (TO:FR) was up 8.61% or 0.68 points to 8.58 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Nevsun Resources Ltd . (TO:NSU), which fell 16.41% or 0.540 points to trade at 2.750 at the close. Element Fleet Management Corp (TO:EFN) declined 8.90% or 0.83 points to end at 8.50 and Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TO:IVN) was down 7.63% or 0.350 points to 4.240.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 841 to 309 and 121 ended unchanged.
Shares in Nevsun Resources Ltd. (TO:NSU) fell to 5-year lows; down 16.41% or 0.540 to 2.750. Shares in Element Fleet Management Corp (TO:EFN) fell to 3-years lows; losing 8.90% or 0.83 to 8.50.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 5.50% to 13.24.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.92% or 11.81 to $1291.11 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 2.24% or 1.11 to hit $48.45 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 1.76% or 0.93 to trade at $51.77 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.32% to 0.7850, while CAD/EUR fell 0.46% to 0.6664.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.16% at 93.26.
