Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Healthcare, Energy and Materials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.89% to hit a new 1-month low.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Torex Gold Resources Inc (TO:TXG), which rose 16.90% or 2.040 points to trade at 14.110 at the close. Meanwhile, Cascades Inc . (TO:CAS) added 13.83% or 1.92 points to end at 15.80 and West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd . (TO:WFT) was up 1.77% or 1.52 points to 87.59 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were IAMGold Corporation (TO:IMG), which fell 5.90% or 0.450 points to trade at 7.180 at the close. Detour Gold Corporation (TO:DGC) declined 5.81% or 0.81 points to end at 13.13 and Birchcliff Energy Ltd . (TO:BIR) was down 5.77% or 0.22 points to 3.59.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 724 to 409 and 126 ended unchanged.
Shares in West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd. (TO:WFT) rose to all time highs; rising 1.77% or 1.52 to 87.59.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.31% to 12.76.
Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.95% or 12.90 to $1339.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 1.04% or 0.69 to hit $65.45 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 1.47% or 1.03 to trade at $69.12 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.18% to 0.8104, while CAD/EUR rose 0.23% to 0.6546.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.37% at 89.20.
