Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Healthcare, IT and Clean Technology sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.76%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were TransAlta Corp (TSX:TA), which rose 4.49% or 0.43 points to trade at 10.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Atco Ltd (TSX:ACOx) added 2.81% or 1.14 points to end at 41.64 and Spin Master Corp (TSX:TOY) was up 2.63% or 0.83 points to 32.43 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX:BHC), which fell 23.11% or 2.41 points to trade at 8.02 at the close. Celestica Inc. (TSX:CLS) declined 7.49% or 5.97 points to end at 73.75 and Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY) was down 5.38% or 0.14 points to 2.46.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 577 to 362 and 102 ended unchanged.
Shares in Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX:BHC) fell to 52-week lows; down 23.11% or 2.41 to 8.02. Shares in Atco Ltd (TSX:ACOx) rose to 52-week highs; rising 2.81% or 1.14 to 41.64.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 38.96% to 13.34 a new 1-month high.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.41% or 9.95 to $2,397.35 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.62% or 0.48 to hit $77.44 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.54% or 0.44 to trade at $81.45 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.19% to 0.72, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.06% to 0.67.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.07% at 104.11.
