Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Energy, Consumer Discretionary and Financials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.75% to hit a new 1-month low.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Yamana Gold Inc (TSX:YRI), which rose 9.09% or 0.38 points to trade at 4.56 at the close. Meanwhile, Aurora Cannabis Inc (TSX:ACB) added 8.22% or 0.69 points to end at 9.08 and Kirkland Lake Gold Ltd (TSX:KL) was up 6.53% or 3.800 points to 61.980 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Ensign Energy Services Inc (TSX:ESI), which fell 9.09% or 0.36 points to trade at 3.60 at the close. Seven Generations Energy Ltd (TSX:VII) declined 8.71% or 0.65 points to end at 6.81 and SNC-Lavalin Group Inc . (TSX:SNC) was down 8.14% or 1.45 points to 16.36.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 783 to 322 and 99 ended unchanged.
Shares in Yamana Gold Inc (TSX:YRI) rose to 52-week highs; rising 9.09% or 0.38 to 4.56. Shares in Ensign Energy Services Inc (TSX:ESI) fell to 5-year lows; down 9.09% or 0.36 to 3.60. Shares in Kirkland Lake Gold Ltd (TSX:KL) rose to all time highs; rising 6.53% or 3.800 to 61.980. Shares in SNC-Lavalin Group Inc. (TSX:SNC) fell to 5-year lows; down 8.14% or 1.45 to 16.36.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 12.51% to 14.30 a new 1-month high.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.67% or 9.95 to $1486.45 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 2.19% or 1.20 to hit $53.49 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.26% or 0.15 to trade at $58.59 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.06% to 0.7533, while CAD/EUR rose 0.06% to 0.6725.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.09% at 97.400.
