Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the IT, Energy and Materials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.64% to hit a new 1-month low.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Aphria Inc (TSX:APHA), which rose 40.07% or 2.765 points to trade at 9.665 at the close. Meanwhile, Cronos Group Inc (TSX:CRON) added 8.46% or 1.4200 points to end at 18.2000 and Aurora Cannabis Inc (TSX:ACB) was up 7.84% or 0.61 points to 8.39 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Open Text Corp (TSX:OTEX), which fell 8.84% or 4.97 points to trade at 51.26 at the close. SNC-Lavalin Group Inc . (TSX:SNC) declined 5.87% or 1.11 points to end at 17.81 and Methanex Corporation (TSX:MX) was down 5.12% or 2.44 points to 45.18.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 625 to 390 and 121 ended unchanged.
Shares in SNC-Lavalin Group Inc. (TSX:SNC) fell to 5-year lows; falling 5.87% or 1.11 to 17.81. Shares in Methanex Corporation (TSX:MX) fell to 52-week lows; falling 5.12% or 2.44 to 45.18.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 4.70% to 12.71 a new 1-month high.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.45% or 20.80 to $1453.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 2.37% or 1.28 to hit $55.23 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 1.27% or 0.77 to trade at $61.27 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.07% to 0.7573, while CAD/EUR fell 0.14% to 0.6816.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.28% at 97.873.
