Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Energy, Healthcare and Materials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.56%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TO:IVN), which rose 7.94% or 0.250 points to trade at 3.400 at the close. Meanwhile, Pason Systems Inc . (TO:PSI) added 6.73% or 1.31 points to end at 20.77 and Gildan Activewear Inc. (TO:GIL) was up 5.16% or 2.52 points to 51.37 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were SNC-Lavalin Group Inc . (TO:SNC), which fell 13.13% or 4.38 points to trade at 28.97 at the close. CannTrust Holdings Inc (TO:TRST) declined 12.57% or 1.0900 points to end at 7.5800 and Cott Corp (TO:BCB) was down 7.67% or 1.57 points to 18.91.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 709 to 335 and 141 ended unchanged.
Shares in SNC-Lavalin Group Inc. (TO:SNC) fell to 5-year lows; losing 13.13% or 4.38 to 28.97. Shares in Gildan Activewear Inc. (TO:GIL) rose to 3-years highs; gaining 5.16% or 2.52 to 51.37.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 1.72% to 11.86.
Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.97% or 12.45 to $1271.75 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 3.22% or 2.05 to hit $61.55 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.03% or 0.02 to trade at $70.38 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.04% to 0.7423, while CAD/EUR rose 0.07% to 0.6641.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.18% at 97.588.
