Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Consumer Discretionary, Industrials and Healthcare sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.52%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were IAMGold Corporation (TO:IMG), which rose 12.39% or 0.27 points to trade at 2.45 at the close. Meanwhile, Alamos Gold Inc (TO:AGI) added 10.72% or 0.49 points to end at 5.06 and First Majestic Silver Corp. (TO:FR) was up 10.68% or 0.50 points to 5.18 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Trican Well Service Ltd . (TO:TCW), which fell 10.55% or 0.27 points to trade at 2.29 at the close. ATS Automation Tooling Systems Inc. (TO:ATA) declined 9.06% or 1.45 points to end at 14.55 and Intertape Polymer Group Inc . (TO:ITP) was down 8.01% or 1.52 points to 17.46.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 681 to 679 and 162 ended unchanged.
Shares in Trican Well Service Ltd. (TO:TCW) fell to 5-year lows; down 10.55% or 0.27 to 2.29.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 3.78% to 16.76 a new 3-months high.
Gold for December delivery was up 1.40% or 15.50 to $1123.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.59% or 0.26 to hit $43.34 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 1.01% or 0.50 to trade at $50.21 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 1.05% to 0.7704, while CAD/EUR fell 0.09% to 0.6898.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.98% at 96.28.
