Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Consumer Discretionary, Telecoms and IT sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.50%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were TORC Oil & Gas Ltd. (TO:TOG), which rose 5.15% or 0.41 points to trade at 8.37 at the close. Meanwhile, MAG Silver Corp . (TO:MAG) added 4.98% or 1.06 points to end at 22.36 and Canadian Energy Services & Technology Corp (TO:CEU) was up 4.65% or 0.200 points to 4.500 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Avigilon Corp (TO:AVO), which fell 25.24% or 3.37 points to trade at 9.98 at the close. ATS Automation Tooling Systems Inc. (TO:ATA) declined 4.01% or 0.41 points to end at 9.82 and First Majestic Silver Corp. (TO:FR) was down 3.15% or 0.71 points to 21.86.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 632 to 531 and 137 ended unchanged.
Shares in Avigilon Corp (TO:AVO) fell to 3-years lows; losing 25.24% or 3.37 to 9.98. Shares in MAG Silver Corp. (TO:MAG) rose to all time highs; rising 4.98% or 1.06 to 22.36.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 8.44% to 14.78.
Gold for December delivery was up 0.30% or 4.10 to $1351.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.90% or 0.87 to hit $46.61 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 1.80% or 0.87 to trade at $49.22 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.56% to 0.7781, while CAD/EUR fell 0.29% to 0.6898.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.88% at 94.74.
