Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Healthcare, Materials and Clean Technology sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.50%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Shopify Inc (TO:SHOP), which rose 6.05% or 10.050 points to trade at 176.120 at the close. Meanwhile, Stantec Inc. (TO:STN) added 5.81% or 1.91 points to end at 34.77 and Lucara Diamond Corp (TO:LUC) was up 3.86% or 0.080 points to 2.150 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Aphria Inc (TO:APH), which fell 14.10% or 2.580 points to trade at 15.720 at the close. Aurora Cannabis Inc (TO:ACB) declined 12.49% or 1.630 points to end at 11.420 and Canopy Growth Corp (TO:WEED) was down 11.31% or 6.930 points to 54.370.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 648 to 481 and 98 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 1.84% to 16.52.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.15% or 1.80 to $1225.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.59% or 0.41 to hit $69.53 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.38% or 0.30 to trade at $80.08 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.05% to 0.7636, while CAD/EUR rose 0.44% to 0.6658.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.32% at 95.75.
