Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Consumer Discretionary, Energy and Clean Technology sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.46%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TO:IVN), which rose 6.97% or 0.170 points to trade at 2.610 at the close. Meanwhile, Aurora Cannabis Inc (TO:ACB) added 4.07% or 0.500 points to end at 12.770 and Kirkland Lake Gold Ltd (TO:KL) was up 3.97% or 0.960 points to 25.170 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Martinrea International Inc . (TO:MRE), which fell 4.86% or 0.69 points to trade at 13.50 at the close. Magna International Inc (TO:MG) declined 4.67% or 3.33 points to end at 67.94 and AltaGas Ltd (TO:ALA) was down 3.76% or 0.81 points to 20.71.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 561 to 528 and 154 ended unchanged.
Shares in AltaGas Ltd (TO:ALA) fell to 5-year lows; falling 3.76% or 0.81 to 20.71.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 1.06% to 13.31.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.09% or 1.10 to $1205.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.32% or 0.23 to hit $72.31 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.82% or 0.66 to trade at $81.19 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.01% to 0.7720, while CAD/EUR fell 0.18% to 0.6559.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.14% at 93.72.
