Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the IT, Clean Technology and Consumer Discretionary sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.45%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were TFI International Inc (TO:TFII), which rose 10.02% or 3.94 points to trade at 43.26 at the close. Meanwhile, Yamana Gold Inc (TO:YRI) added 9.09% or 0.33 points to end at 3.96 and Aphria Inc (TO:APH) was up 6.22% or 0.650 points to 11.100 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were New Gold Inc (TO:NGD), which fell 13.23% or 0.250 points to trade at 1.640 at the close. Constellation Software Inc . (TO:CSU) declined 8.98% or 94.67 points to end at 959.93 and Shopify Inc (TO:SHOP) was down 6.00% or 13.380 points to 209.470.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 532 to 502 and 151 ended unchanged.
Shares in TFI International Inc (TO:TFII) rose to all time highs; gaining 10.02% or 3.94 to 43.26. Shares in New Gold Inc (TO:NGD) fell to 5-year lows; losing 13.23% or 0.250 to 1.640.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 2.56% to 12.84.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.25% or 3.10 to $1222.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.76% or 0.53 to hit $69.08 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.36% or 0.27 to trade at $74.27 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.12% to 0.7656, while CAD/EUR fell 0.06% to 0.6566.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.13% at 94.45.
