Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Financials, Consumer Discretionary and Healthcare sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.44%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Gran Tierra Energy Inc (TO:GTE), which rose 4.59% or 0.180 points to trade at 4.100 at the close. Meanwhile, First Majestic Silver Corp. (TO:FR) added 4.07% or 0.36 points to end at 9.20 and Endeavour Mining Corp (TO:EDV) was up 3.76% or 0.830 points to 22.910 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Corus Entertainment Inc (TO:CJRb), which fell 4.99% or 0.32 points to trade at 6.09 at the close. First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TO:FM) declined 4.52% or 0.90 points to end at 19.01 and Nevsun Resources Ltd (TO:NSU) was down 3.94% or 0.170 points to 4.150.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 691 to 430 and 115 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 3.86% to 13.17.
Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.34% or 4.40 to $1299.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 1.53% or 1.04 to hit $66.84 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.23% or 0.17 to trade at $75.49 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.16% to 0.7683, while CAD/EUR rose 0.57% to 0.6659.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.47% at 94.80.
