Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Consumer Discretionary, Industrials and Healthcare sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.43%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were HudBay Minerals Inc. (TO:HBM), which rose 4.86% or 0.55 points to trade at 11.86 at the close. Meanwhile, B2Gold Corp (TO:BTO) added 4.49% or 0.160 points to end at 3.720 and Crescent Point Energy Corp . (TO:CPG) was up 4.49% or 0.47 points to 10.94 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Corus Entertainment Inc (TO:CJRb), which fell 16.94% or 1.87 points to trade at 9.17 at the close. Klondex Mines Ltd (TO:KDX) declined 11.49% or 0.340 points to end at 2.620 and Trican Well Service Ltd . (TO:TCW) was down 6.54% or 0.280 points to 4.000.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 576 to 560 and 139 ended unchanged.
Shares in HudBay Minerals Inc. (TO:HBM) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 4.86% or 0.55 to 11.86. Shares in Corus Entertainment Inc (TO:CJRb) fell to 52-week lows; losing 16.94% or 1.87 to 9.17. Shares in Klondex Mines Ltd (TO:KDX) fell to 52-week lows; falling 11.49% or 0.340 to 2.620.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 1.57% to 11.68 a new 1-month high.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.31% or 4.10 to $1317.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.73% or 0.46 to hit $63.42 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.32% or 0.22 to trade at $69.04 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.60% to 0.7975, while CAD/EUR fell 0.74% to 0.6671.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.17% at 92.07.
