Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Healthcare, Consumer Discretionary and Consumer Staples sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.41% to hit a new 3-months low.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were ATS Automation Tooling Systems Inc. (TO:ATA), which rose 6.82% or 1.53 points to trade at 23.98 at the close. Meanwhile, Lucara Diamond Corp (TO:LUC) added 6.39% or 0.140 points to end at 2.330 and Tourmaline Oil Corp . (TO:TOU) was up 4.59% or 0.94 points to 21.43 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Dollarama Inc (TO:DOL), which fell 17.19% or 8.95 points to trade at 43.12 at the close. Aphria Inc (TO:APH) declined 16.91% or 3.520 points to end at 17.300 and Canopy Growth Corp (TO:WEED) was down 13.62% or 9.030 points to 57.280.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 539 to 531 and 151 ended unchanged.
Shares in ATS Automation Tooling Systems Inc. (TO:ATA) rose to 5-year highs; up 6.82% or 1.53 to 23.98. Shares in Dollarama Inc (TO:DOL) fell to 52-week lows; falling 17.19% or 8.95 to 43.12.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.48% to 14.51.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.34% or 4.10 to $1206.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 2.26% or 1.59 to hit $68.78 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 1.73% or 1.38 to trade at $78.36 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.07% to 0.7689, while CAD/EUR fell 0.60% to 0.6577.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.30% at 94.54.
