Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the IT, Healthcare and Materials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.37%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Precision Drilling Corporation (TO:PD), which rose 8.52% or 0.27 points to trade at 3.44 at the close. Meanwhile, CES Energy Solutions Corp (TO:CEU) added 5.17% or 0.290 points to end at 5.900 and Baytex Energy Corp (TO:BTE) was up 4.37% or 0.17 points to 4.06 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Guyana Goldfields Inc . (TO:GUY), which fell 8.13% or 0.360 points to trade at 4.070 at the close. Canopy Growth Corp (TO:WEED) declined 7.11% or 1.340 points to end at 17.510 and Shopify Inc (TO:SHOP) was down 7.03% or 10.090 points to 133.400.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 665 to 506 and 113 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 41.74% to 9.95.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.89% or 11.57 to $1283.33 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.93% or 0.54 to hit $57.45 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.81% or 0.51 to trade at $62.73 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.36% to 0.7775, while CAD/EUR fell 0.44% to 0.6561.
The US Dollar Index Futures was unchanged 0.00% at 93.20.
