Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Healthcare, Telecoms and IT sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.37% to hit a new 52-week low.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Aecon Group Inc . (TO:ARE), which rose 11.88% or 1.93 points to trade at 18.17 at the close. Meanwhile, First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TO:FM) added 7.04% or 0.77 points to end at 11.70 and Trican Well Service Ltd . (TO:TCW) was up 6.90% or 0.120 points to 1.860 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Canfor Corporation (TO:CFP), which fell 7.08% or 1.45 points to trade at 19.04 at the close. Bombardier Inc (TO:BBDb) declined 6.65% or 0.220 points to end at 3.090 and Eldorado Gold Corp (TO:ELD) was down 5.77% or 0.06 points to 0.98.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 786 to 361 and 109 ended unchanged.
Shares in Canfor Corporation (TO:CFP) fell to 52-week lows; falling 7.08% or 1.45 to 19.04. Shares in Eldorado Gold Corp (TO:ELD) fell to 5-year lows; down 5.77% or 0.06 to 0.98.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 5.63% to 20.64 a new 6-months high.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.58% or 7.10 to $1236.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.50% or 0.34 to hit $67.67 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 1.08% or 0.83 to trade at $77.72 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.14% to 0.7640, while CAD/EUR fell 0.45% to 0.6695.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.34% at 96.13.
