Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the IT, Consumer Staples and Healthcare sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.36%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TO:IVN), which rose 4.94% or 0.120 points to trade at 2.550 at the close. Meanwhile, Air Canada (TO:AC) added 3.80% or 0.890 points to end at 24.300 and Paramount Resources Ltd . (TO:POU) was up 3.61% or 0.52 points to 14.91 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Shopify Inc (TO:SHOP), which fell 8.41% or 17.610 points to trade at 191.860 at the close. Canada Goose Holdings Inc (TO:GOOS) declined 6.64% or 5.12 points to end at 72.01 and Kinaxis Inc (TO:KXS) was down 5.87% or 5.47 points to 87.71.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 577 to 508 and 128 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 2.26% to 13.13.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.22% or 2.70 to $1220.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.98% or 1.36 to hit $70.05 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.79% or 0.59 to trade at $75.35 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.24% to 0.7674, while CAD/EUR fell 0.17% to 0.6556.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.33% at 94.16.
